Queen Scheherazade is a highly educated and clever mythological scholar from the Arabian Nights tales. She tells stories to her misogynist Sultan husband every night for one thousand and one nights in order to engage his curiosity long enough to stall her execution. For nearly three years she tells the Sultan stories, ending them in suspense each dawn in the hope that she can continue again at dusk. When her vast reservoir of knowledge is finally depleted, the Sultan finds that he cares deeply for his wife who by now has borne him two children; he realizes that he cannot bring himself to execute her.

I consider Scheherazade’s one of a kind helmet to be an important piece of work for my creative process because it was my first lost-wax casting project and the beginning of an exciting new direction for Enchanted Doll. I had wanted to incorporate sculptural metal clothes into my dolls for quite some time before Scheherazade. Acquiring this new skill allowed me to diversify my aesthetic and make my dolls more expressive and visually striking.
